(Bangkok) Thaniya Plaza - The Golfers' Heaven

When I arrived at Bangkok on August 22, 2014, I never imagine I'll find this place. It started when I searched for relatively cheap golf shoes. I browsed the internet and the name THANIYA PLAZA popped up. Following up the finding, we (me and my wife) decided to visit that plaza.

It is located at 52 Silom Road, Bangkok. Although the address is clear, in most cases (from my experience), we can't communicate with taxi driver in English. Therefore, the easiest way to go to there is by sky train (BTS).

Here's the direction using BTS:
  • The place is connected to Sala Daeng station (Silom Line).
  • From BTS Sukhumvit Line, change train at Siam (Cen) station. Take Bang Wa destination (Sala Daeng is the second stop).
If you are using MRT, follow below steps:
  1. Stop at Sukhumvit station. It is an interchange station with BTS Sukhumvit Line (known as Asok Station by BTS).
  2. Exit the MRT station and heading to the BTS (Asok Station).
  3. Take Mo Chit Line and stop at Siam (Cen) station.
  4. Change train to Silom Line, Bang Wa destination (Sala Daeng is the second stop)
Follow the sign to "Thaniya Plaza" to exit. The Plaza is connected to the station through "Thaniya Building". Enter the building and there's a clear sign to guide visitors to the Plaza.

The first impression I had is "wow". My horizon was filled with golf equipment, golf ball, golf accessories, golf apparel and golf bla bla bla. It is fantastic!

Thaniya Plaza is a 4 (four) storeys shopping mall. It is not new, but it clearly well maintained. It is clean, even its toilet (I like to use toilet as the standard of measurement for the cleanliness and maintenance of a building). However, the arrangement of the elevator is a bit of confusing and unusual. The going up and down elevator is located differently and without regular pattern. Therefore, I prefer using the stairs which is also available in the mall (not the emergency exit stairs) and well arranged.

Majority of the products offered there are golf related. Name whatever thoughts you have in mind about golf. Many of the stores are having an indoor driving range to test the club.
  • Golf club: name the brand and the type. PING, Nike, Honma, Callaway, Taylormade etc. All are there for you, both new or used club.
  • Golf fitting: hundreds of shaft and grips are offered plus the fitter (however, I have no idea about the qualification of the fitter).
  • Golf apparel: from head to toe. I bought 2 golf shirts for only THB 1000 or THB 500 each (equal to approximately IDR 190 K or USD 17). I also bought 3 pairs of shocks for only THB 100 or THB 33 each (equal to approximately IDR 12,700 or USD 1.2).
  • Golf ball: new and used are available. The supply can even enough to open a small driving range. In addition, collection items designed ball also available, such as globe design, basket ball design, etc.
  • Golf accessories: what do you want? Wood cover, iron cover, putting cover, tee, sticker for wood, etc. Hundreds of design are waiting.
  • Golf training equipment: putting mat, chipping basket, swing mat, impact bag, power fan, etc. Any training aid required to improve the game can be found.
  • Golf leasson & play arrangement: I don't see or request information directly for these services, but I believe some stores are offering these arrangement.
In addition to golf related things, there are some book stores (the biggest one is Asia Book Store and -of course- many golf books selection), Thailand high quality handycraft and hand made products and several good restaurants.

So....if you are a golfer, add this place on your list if you visit Bangkok.

Golfing in Johannesburg vs Jakarta

Well, I am very lucky to have a chance to play 2 (two) rounds golf in Johannesburg during our (me and my wife) short holiday to that wonderful city in South Africa at March 12-21, 2017. Lombok: another paradise in Indonesia

(Singapore) Golf Equipment Hunt

One thing in common for all golfers is that they always look for golf related matters wherever they go. Well....including me :) This is about satisfying that need in Singapore. In fact, it is quiet surprising to know that -regardless the size of the country- Singapore has a serious interest in golf. They have been hosting LPGA Tour for years and they also have a lot of offering for golfers. Far East Shopping Center -to my knowledge- is a place in Singapore with the most complete golf related stuffs offering.
